Learning Management Systems (LMS): Institutional Administration & Governance

Top-Level Administration & User Management

I serve as a Top-Level Administrator for the Canvas Instructure LMS at the University of Denver, overseeing the digital learning environment for nearly 4,000 employees and students. My role involves high-stakes user management, ensuring that benefited, non-benefited, and student employees have seamless access to the training and resources required for their roles.

Advanced Platforms: Canvas Catalog

I specialize in the implementation and management of Canvas Catalog, an advanced extension of the LMS that provides enterprise-level functionality. I leverage this platform to provide:

  • Monetization & Payment Gateways (beta): We have recently enabled payment integration with Canvas Catalog subcatalogs and we expect to have departments be able to sell their own courses by fall 2026. We will be starting with a small group of departments before we scale accordingly.

  • Robust Analytics & Reporting: Utilizing advanced tracking to provide leadership with deep insights into learner progress, completion rates, and departmental performance.

  • Quality Assurance & Accessibility Testing: I serve as a final gatekeeper, rigorously testing all platform configurations to ensure they adhere to the strict standards set by our digital accessibility team (and myself!).

  • Departmental Autonomy: Configuring sub-catalog environments that grant individual departments greater control over their unique content and branding while still adhering to the institutional styleguide.

Strategic Enablement: “Train the Trainer”

I believe in empowering others to be self-sufficient within the digital ecosystem. I lead “Train the Trainer” initiatives, where I mentor departmental leads on the technical and pedagogical standards of the LMS.

  • Capacity Building: I teach stakeholders how to navigate their specific Canvas Catalog accounts to successfully build, review, and publish their own high-quality coursework.

  • Standardization: By training others, I ensure that despite decentralized content creation, the institutional standards for quality and accessibility remain consistent.

LMS Versatility & Migrations

My technical expertise is not limited to a single platform; I have managed learning systems across multiple major institutions, and I am always excited to continue expanding my skills and adopt new technologies.

  • Enterprise Transitions: Managed employee courses and user data within Cornerstone prior to the university-wide migration to Canvas.

  • Cross-Institutional Experience: Previously managed content and user environments within the Desire2Learn (D2L) LMS at both Arapahoe Community College and Red Rocks Community College.
